Pairing Wine and Tacos Part 1

Ok so we all know that beer and margs are a tacos best friend. Why not try them with a wine?

I love a cold Mexican lager or a spicy marg with a taco anytime., but there are some awesome wines out there that can pair beautifully with your next taco spread.

In this series of posts I will be posting several types of tacos and wines that will compliment them. I will also tell you where to find them in Rochester, MN.

Next time you are having shrimp tacos consider grabbing a bottle of Albariño.

Albariño is a light white wine that is mostly grown in Spain and Portugal. It is light bodied with crisp acidity. It is primarily grown in cooler coastal areas so shrimp is the perfect match. When drinking this wine you will find notes of lemon, grapefruit, nectarine, and sea salt. Other taco options that will compliment the wine would be any type of fish tacos and the use of cilantro or cilantro based sauce.

One of my favorite Albariños is La Cana Albariño from Rias Baixas Spain. This wine is delightful with additional peach and pear notes. This bottle can be found at Tessa's Office in Downtown Rochester, MN and Apollo Wine and Spirits next to Best Buy in Rochester, MN.

Average price is $20. Spanish and Portuguese wines certainly back a bang for the buck. This wine certainly drinks like it is closer to a $30/bottle wine.

Will you try this wine?
